It takes some planning, but you will be rewarded

Take the scenic 3 hour drive over the Bay Bridge from DC, or down the Eastern Shore from Philly/NJ/NYC, and come to a different world.
The only reliable transport is from Crisfield, Maryland. Local Boats:  We routinely use the CAPT Jason (a red boat) captained by Captain Terry Laird.  The regular ferry boats transport passengers year-round to the island at 12:30 PM on Monday-Saturday.  Boats leave at 12:30 PM SHARP!  Please arrive at least 30 minutes early to prevent missing the boat.  Boats return to the mainland most days at 7:30 AM.  Some boats do run in the afternoon during the summer months. Ferry cost is $25 each way, payable to the captain in cash (prices are changing with rising fuel costs, this may change).  No credit cards accepted.  The dock is located down the street from the parking area and is known as the county dock.

Parking is available at JP Tawes & Brothers Lumber.  From W. Main St, turn right on Tenth Street and proceed to the intersection. On the left, you will see a tan building with an orange roof.  Park in front of the building unless it is full.  If full, proceed to the back lot.  There is a drop box in the front.  Please bring an envelope with the make of your car, license number of car, and number of nights you are staying.  Cost is $3 per night.  If you are riding the Chelsea Lane, turn left at CPT Tyler’s Motel and pay there for your fare.  Only one way fares may be purchased for guests staying overnight. Please do not purchase around trip ticket as this will result in them holding the boat thinking they are missing passengers on the same trip boat riders.
